Edith C. Baker School PTO Meeting Minutes
February 24th, 7:00pm
Baker School Library
The PTO president, Emily Engeland, called the meeting to order at 7:00pm.
Board members in attendance were: Emily Engeland, Caroline O’Brien, Carolyn Thall.
1) Approval of Minutes
The minutes from the PTO’s December, 2014 meeting were not submitted for approval because there was not a quorum at the meeting.
2) Fundraising Update
Emily Engeland gave an update on the PTO’s strong fundraising outcomes to date.
3) Upcoming events
Details were provided on the 3/3/15 Community Chat, 3/27/15 Culture Fest, 4/29/15 Art Show and Auction, 5/6/15 Joe Jones Basketball Clinic, and the May (date TBD) Teacher Appreciation Luncheon.
5) Traffic Concerns
Community members continue to be frustrated with traffic around school and concerned about student safety. It is difficult to walk to school from across Independence/Grove because of heavy and fast traffic. But more people should be walking and there was discussion of how walking could be encouraged. There was discussion of the “walking bus” concept wherein children would pick each other up along a designated walking route with one parent supervisor. The idea of involving the “Wellness Committee” was floated. There was also talk of forming a committee within Baker to address this concern.
6) Presentation by Tom Kilday of Climate Action Brookline.
Climate Action Brookline and Mothers Out Front are looking for ways to incentivize people to convert to renewable green energy. They want 100 households to convert by June, 2015.
Minutes respectfully submitted by Carolyn Thall, PTO secretary.
