8) Brookline Educators Union Contract Negotiations: Jessica Wender-Shubow, President of the Brookline Educators Union president, discussed the ongoing contract negotiations. She described teacher profound shifts in teacher experience and crisis in ability of teachers to teach. She emphasized three themes:
1) The ability of educators to have face to face relationships based on teaching and learning is being threatened by obligations around data collection, paperwork and schedules; 2) Safety: more staff and arrangements are needed to accommodate changes in student population; 3) respect for the professionalism of teachers. She said the teacher workload has become absolutely paralyzing. She took questions from parents.
Minutes respectfully submitted by Carolyn Thall, PTO secretary.
