At the PTO Annual Meeting on May 23rd 2012, a new budget was approved for 2012-2013 and new officers were elected.
BUDGET APPROVAL
Thanks to generous support from parents this year, the PTO budget for 2012-13 will expand grant opportunities for teachers and enable more arts and technology opportunities to be funded for our children. The budget will be shared with the community later in June. Thank you to the 2011 Budget Committee for their work in developing a strategy for funding that enables the PTO to better understand how our teachers use parent donations and determine what will be important to fund moving forward.
NEW OFFICER ELECTIONS
New board members were voted into office: Kristin Jones as Co-President (serving with current Co-President Kerrianne Ciccone), new Co-Vice Presidents Larry Jordan and Sarah Jeong, and new Secretary Carolyn Thall. Ginny Friedman remains Treasurer. Officer resignations were recorded from Co-Presidents Debbie Hart-Klein and Maneesha Gulati, as well as Secretary Elizabeth Schlosberg.
INVOLVEMENT OPPORTUNITIES
There will be opportunities for increased parent involvement at the committee level next year, including new PTO-led events to be planned throughout the year.
Parents interested in serving the school outside of the PTO are invited to join the Site Council or the Bullying Prevention Coordination Committee (BPCC).
SITE COUNCIL PARENT REP The Site Council is a town-based committee at each school that assists the principal in identifying the educational needs of the students attending the school, reviewing the annual school budget, and formulating the school improvement plan. This group meets once a month at school at 8:00am. It includes Dr Brown, two teachers, and four parents including one PTO representative. There are two open slots available for parents next year to join. If you are interested in being nominated to serve on Site Council, please email your name to [email protected] and we will create an e-vote for parents. The deadline to submit your name is Thursday May 31.
BULLYING PREVENTION COORDINATION COMMITTEE (BPCC) PARENT REP Every Brookline school will have a BPCC next year. There is a training session on the Olweus System with the Baker Team on May 30 and May 31 from 8:00 - 2:20. This representative will support the implementation of all components of the program next year by attending a monthly meeting. Please contact Dr Brown directly if you are interested in serving on this committee as soon as possible at [email protected].
