Minutes from PTO Meeting- May 16, 2013
Board Members in Attendance: Kristin Jones, Ginny Friedman, Larry Jordan
1- Budget Discussion: We looked over this year’s budget and discussed spending. We have spent about 11,000 more than budgeted this year due to the purchase of the Laptop Cart. This additional money came from our reserves in the bank. We are still fundraising but are also still spending through the end of the year. We are hoping to raise some more funds so we can keep our budget for next year comparable to this year’s. We have raised about $3,000 less than we did last year. If you have not donated to the annual fund yet, there is still time. Please go to www.bakerschoolpto.org and click the donate button. We are only at about 30% participation.
2- We discussed events from this year and started looking forward to next year. The secret to success are the people who are willing to either individually or within a group take on an event and run with it for several years. This is a huge contribution to our school and our PTO. Here are some people who are currently leading the way...
Annual Fund- Lisa Chan
Arts Council-Elizabeth Schlosberg & Sonia Schneider
Picture Day- Raana Mumtaz
Book Fair- Martha Bebinger
Understanding Disabilities Program- Elizabeth Schlosberg & Stacey Nevins
Auction- Carolyn Thall, Sharon Schmidt-Gross, Kristin Jones
Teacher Appreciation Day-Annmarie Baldwin, Stephanie Cohen, PJ Tobasky & Susan Altman
Grants Committee-Ginny Friedman, Annie Short, Larry Jordan, Chrissy Lilienfeld and Lauren Italiano
Site Council-Emily England, Nathan Schpritz & Kristin Jones
3-We discussed some opportunities for new members to get involved. If you have interest in any of the following please contact Kristin Jones at [email protected].
Kerrianne Ciccone will be stepping down from her Co-President’s role. Kristin Jones NEEDS a co-president :). Please feel free to contact Kristin if you are interested.
We will have a Vice President’s role available for next year. We would like this Vice President to be responsible for Advertising events. This includes posting signs at school for upcoming events and coordinating announcements with the office for the end of the school days.
Halloween Party- Last year was our first Halloween Party and it was a lot of fun. The PTO is looking for a few parents who would be willing to run this event next year.
National Fundraising-
We will start collecting Boxtops for our school next year. There will be a box in the office where they can be dropped off. Each boxtop is worth 10 cents. In a school our size they add up quickly! If you would like more information about this fundraiser you can visit www.boxtops4education.com. The PTO would like to find a coordinator for this fundraiser. The person would be responsible for collecting the boxtops from the office and sending them into the organization.
We have a new link to amazon.com on our PTO website. If you are shopping on Amazon, please consider going through the link on our website. Our school makes 5% on all purchases that go through our website link.
Baker Cares-We are looking for someone who is willing to lead any community type initiatives that come our way. Some examples are The Food Drive that goes on in Brookline in the fall to stock St. Paul’s Food Pantry, Walk to school days for the environment, etc.
New winter evening fundraiser-Have an idea for a fun night at Baker School that could raise a little $$. Let us know your idea and we will help you make it a reality!
4-There was discussion at the end of the meeting about the Arts Council’s interest in raising the amount of money they are allocated in the budget. This discussion will be continued in the Budget Committee meeting.
Our final meeting of this school year will be June 13th at 8am. We will need members to come so we can vote on the budget for next year and to vote in new members to the board.
