Edith C. Baker School PTO Meeting Minutes
October 7th, 7:00pm
Baker School Auditorium
The PTO president, Emily Engeland, called the meeting to order at 7:00pm.
Board members in attendance were: Emily Engeland, Caroline O’Brien, Carolyn Thall, Ginny Friedman.
1) Presentation of 2014-15 Budget
Attendees received copies of this year’s budget, including YTD expenses. Emily explained that each year we spend the money raised last year. We did raise enough last year to cover this year’s planned expenditures, but we need to again raise the same amount or more in order to do the same work next year. There were questions about ‘bank reserves’ and Emily explained the PTO does have reserves but in order to function well and as we have in the past, we do not rely on reserves.
2) Goals for coming year
Fundraising/Annual Fund: We are counting on a strong Annual Fund campaign because there will not be an auction this year. We hope for 100% participation, even if families give in small amounts. Lisa Chan, Laura Fox, and Hattie Kessler have excellent plans for Annual Fund.
3) Upcoming Events/Future Meeting Dates
These were reviewed:
Fri, October 24th- Halloween Party 6pm
Fri, November 14th- Family Movie Night K-2
Early December- Book Fair
PTO meetings: 12/9 (am), 2/24 (pm), 5/12 (am)
4) Vote - Modifying Budget Line Item
A motion was approved to increase Administrators’ Fund by $500 to accommodate our second VP. The fund will now be $2350 total (up from $1850), to be used by Principal and two Vice Principals.
5) Presentation by Principal, Dr. Mary Brown
Dr. Brown presented the results of the Bullying Survey given to Baker students in last spring. She described the challenges of using a ‘snapshot’ survey to measure a nuanced issue, but generally feels good about how we are doing.
The next PTO meeting will be Tuesday, December 9th at 8:05am.
